Clinical Science and Molecular Medicine (1974) 47,173-178. VARIATIONS IN ALLOPURINOL METABOLISM BY XANTHINURIC SUBJECTS
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. The metabolism of allopurinol was studied in a newly discovered patient with xanthinuria. 2. No oxipurinol was detectable in the urine during allopurinol administration, in direct contrast to the results in a patient previously studied by one of us. 3. Other equally discrepant effects of allopurinol on urinary purine and pyrimidine excretion in these two cases are compared with those in the three other recorded cases.

Xanthine oxidase deficiency: studies of a previously unreported case.
Xanthinuria is a familial disorder of purine metabolism that results from a marked deficiency of xanthine oxidase (EC 1.2.3.2) activity. We report here the clinical and biochemical features of a new case of xanthinuria. Serum urate concentration was 0.8 mg/i 00 ml, urinary uric acid excretion was 16 mg per day, urinary oxypurme excretion was 1630 mol per day, and total purine excretion was 314 ...
متن کاملPlatelet survival in acute proliferative glomerulonephritis.
S U M M A R Y 1. Platelet survival was measured in patients with acute proliferative glomerulonephritis or chronic renal failure and also in control subjects. 2. Platelet survival is markedly reduced in acute proliferative glomerulonephritis as compared with control subjects; it was slightly reduced in patients in chronic renal failure due to interstitial renal disease and maintained on dialysis.

1. A method of measurement in vitro of purine biosynthesis de novo in human circulating blood lymphocytes is proposed. The rate of early reactions of purine biosynthesis de novo was determined by the incorporation of [14C]formate into N-formyl glycinamide ribonucleotide when the subsequent reactions of the metabolic pathway were completely inhibited by the antibiotic azaserine. 2. Synthesis of ...
متن کاملHuman erythrocyte glutathione reductase and glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase activities in normal subjects and in persons exposed to lead.
1. Blood lead and erythrocyte glutathione reductase (GSSG-R) and glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6P-D) activities were measured in normal subjects and in those with occupational exposure to lead. 2. With increasing blood lead concentration, GSSG-R activity increases and that of G6P-D decreases. 3. It is suggested that these changes represent part of a compensatory mechanism to overcome the ...
متن کاملAN OVERVIEW OF STEM CELL AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE RESEARCHES IN IRAN
Background: In many years, finding modern and appropriate treatments for diseases, especially chronic diseases (such as chronic metabolic diseases) have been one of the most important issues. On the other hand, limitations related to organ transplantation have made a serious need for advanced therapeutic strategies. In this respect, researchers have recognized the benefits of stem cells as a su...
